Voters in DeKalb and Fulton counties will go to the polls today to decide whether a one-penny sales tax will continue to fund new buses, new school construction and renovations, upgraded technology and other capital projects.

In Fulton, the Education Special Purpose Local-Option Sales Tax, E-SPLOST, is expected to raise about $976 million over a five-year period. Atlanta Public Schools is proposing more than $464 million in SPLOST-funded projects.

In DeKalb, E-SPLOST is expected to bring in an estimated $500 million, with plans to use the money to address overcrowded school clusters and renovations to several outdated schools. City of Decatur schools, in DeKalb, also has the school sales tax up for vote today.
