Teachers at DeKalb County's Cross Keys High School said a Black History Month program put on by the school last month felt more like a sermon on religion than a history lesson.
The teachers, who declined to be named fearing retaliation, said the presentation included a teacher dressed as Jesus and presentations on several biblical stories.
Schools are not supposed to promote specific religious beliefs over others.
Several teachers said they reported the event to the DeKalb County School District’s ethics hotline anonymously.
District officials said no complaints have been made to the administration about the event.
“The program featured examples of different religious and mythological figures portrayed by Cross Keys High School administrators and teachers,” the district said in a statement. “The event was meant to be historical, not theological.
“In the future, the district will work closely with school administration to ensure they explore other options as a means to accomplishing the same educational intent.”
