Four Georgia communities will be awarded more than $1 million to improve child care and educational options for young children.
The Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning announced winners of the "early education empowerment zones" grant. These zones will receive money to create a variety a new programs, all geared at better educating and caring for children from birth to age eight.
The zones are: Clarke County, Bibb County, a North Cluster (including Catoosa, Whitfield, Murray, Gordon and Gilmer counties) and a South Cluster (including Colquitt, Cook, Brooks, Lowndes, Echols counties).
Each zone will receive money from a $51.7 million Race to the Top Early Learning Challenge grant awarded to state in December. The grant provides money for the zones increase the number of high-quality child care providers, among other initiatives. Read more about the grant here.
