Six schools in Fulton County were ranked among the top 500 high schools nationally, according to U.S. News & World Report.

Alpharetta High School came in No. 248, while Milton nabbed No. 255 on the prominent news site’s 2016 rankings of the nation’s best high schools, which were released Tuesday.

Chattahoochee High School was No. 300, Northview, No. 328 and Johns Creek, No. 374. Roswell garnered the No. 446 spot.

Criteria used to determine the rankings included how schools fared in comparison to others in their state, academic performance of the school’s black, Hispanic and low-income students, graduation rate and how students performed in the Advanced Placement or the International Baccalaureate program.

The Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science and Technology was ranked the top school in Georgia.

The School for the Talented and Gifted, in Dallas, Texas, was ranked as the nation’s best high school.
