School boosters raise $70,000, leading to chicken dance

The principal of Evansdale Elementary school near Doraville had to cluck and lunge at cars in a chicken suit Monday, after school supporters exceeded a fund-raising goal.

Daniel McGuire had promised parents he’d dance around in the bird suit during the morning drop off if they scored big. Last year, the school foundation and parent-teacher association raised a combined $57,000 in separate fundraisers, said PTA president Jennifer Hatfield.

This year, they joined forces and raised $70,000 in a sponsored walking competition, Hatfield said. The money typically goes toward helping teachers in the classroom.
