School board association celebrates “Georgia School Board Appreciation Week”

A week after Georgia Governor Nathan Deal moved to replace six members of the DeKalb County school board, the Georgia School Boards Association is celebrating school board appreciation week. The weeklong observance calls attention to the contributions of members of local boards of education across the state. As constitutional officers of Georgia, school board members are responsible for setting educational and personnel policies, providing buildings and equipment, operating a transportation system and approving the school system budget. The Georgia School Boards Association is a voluntary statewide organization of local boards of education.
