School accreditation agency weighing whether to investigate

A school accreditation agency says it expects to decide by the end of this week whether to send an investigative team into the DeKalb County school system.

AdvancEd, parent company of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, sent a letter to Superintendent Cheryl Atkinson last month containing allegations that her school board had micromanaged administrative matters while failing to effectively oversee system finances.

Atkinson sent a response last week, and AdvancEd spokeswoman Jennifer Oliver said the agency should decide by Friday whether to investigate.
