Meetings are being held by Fulton County schools officials on Nov. 5 and Dec. 3 to address the redistricting process for two new schools in Roswell.
One of the schools – known as “Highway 9 Elementary School” — is already constructed at the intersection of Highway 9 and Thomas Drive and is serving as the temporary location of Esther Jackson Elementary.
In August 2016, the Highway 9 school will re-open with a new name in its newly developed attendance zone. The newly rebuilt Esther Jackson Elementary School also will open on its original Martin Road site with a new student body.
The November meeting will be held 7-9 p.m. at Esther Jackson Elementary School (Highway 9 ES site). The December meeting is also 7-9 p.m. at Esther Jackson Elementary (Highway 9 ES site).
With redistricting, the school system holds a series of meetings to gather information needed to draft a proposal that aims to meet the community’s needs. During meetings, community members and parents will review the school board’s redistricting criteria and can comment on residential development, traffic, previous redistricting and other issues relevant to the criteria used for redrawing attendance lines.
Parents and community members also can also provide input online through the redistricting website once it goes live Nov. 5.
