A Paulding County school teacher has been charged with simple battery for allegedly improperly restraining a 4-year-old pupil at an elementary school.

Jack Talley, 65, turned himself in to the Paulding County Detention Center on Monday and was released later that day on a $1,300 bond for the misdemeanor charge.

On Oct. 8, the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office Crimes Against Children division was alerted about an incident in which a pre-k student at Northside Elementary was allegedly improperly restrained as a result of some type of outburst the child had, the news release said.

According to reports, other school district employees saw the incident and alerted school administrators. School administrators then contacted the girl’s family and the sheriff’s office, which began investigating the incident, Cpl. Ashley Henson said.

After their investigation, Paulding authorities determined that Talley had acted inappropriately in restraining the child.

Brian Otott, associate superintendent for the Paulding County School District, said Talley has been reassigned from his duties in the classroom pending the outcome of the district’s investigation.
