Several Fulton County Schools are winners of $6.04 million in "seed funding" to launch innovative projects in schools.
The program is in its second year and is managed by the nonprofit Fulton Education Foundation. It was established in 2013 as part of the district's transformation into Georgia's largest charter system, and money has been distributed to more than 51 schools.
This year’s awards include $188,000 for plans to launch an International Baccalaureate program at Lake Forest Elementary; $218,000 to set up a STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) lab and hire a STEM instructor at Sandy Springs Middle and $226,000 to support longer school days, project-based learning and other initiatives at Holcomb Bridge Middle.
The Fulton Education Foundation approved 54 requests, with grant awards averaging about $82,000.
