The Fayette County school district has found mold in Huddleston Elementary School in Peachtree City.
The district has cleaned affected classrooms and conducted air quality checks, Principal Heidi Pfannenstiel wrote in a letter to parents.
The mold is not the dreaded “black mold,” Pfannenstiel wrote.
“There are some individuals with a higher sensitivity to molds in the environment; however, the air quality reports are well within an acceptable range, as reported by the industrial hygienist,” she wrote.
Gaps in exterior walls had allowed building air conditioning units to pull in outside air, creating areas of greater humidity in some places, Pfannenstiel wrote. Facilities personnel have filled those gaps and will also improve drainage around the building.
