A lawsuit filed against the DeKalb County School District alleges a teacher at Clarkston High School body-slammed and dragged a student in May, and that the student lost consciousness and suffered a fractured jaw.
The civil suit, filed by Noe Ka Mui on behalf of his teenage son, seeks damages related to the May 5, 2017, incident.
According to court documents filed in DeKalb County Superior Court, the teen, who is not being identified because he is the alleged victim of a crime, went to teacher Joel Jackson after another student took his headphones during class. Jackson initially told the teen he'd address the issue, but did not.
After class, the teen was confronted in the hallway by the student he accused of taking his headphones. After their encounter, the teen said Jackson came into the hallway and body-slammed him to the ground and restrained him against lockers.
“Once (the teen) was on the ground, Defendant Jackson pulled (him) across the floor to an office,” the complaint said.
The teen as transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he was treated for injuries that he continues to recover from, the report said.
DeKalb County Jail records do not show where Jackson was charged in the incident.
According to the complaint, video initially available of the incident was erased by the district.
The lawsuit is the second filed in a month alleging misconduct by DeKalb County Schools officials.
