Authorities in Fayette County continue to investigate a weekend robbery of high school students attending an after-prom party at a Sandy Creek High School administrator’s home.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office said four students were robbed of their cellphones and money early Sunday morning in the neighborhood where Sandy Creek Assistant Principal Shannon Lain lives. The suspects fired several shots before running away. None of the students was injured. The sheriff’s office was expected to release an incident report on the matter Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the principal of Sandy Creek High School sent a letter home to parents Monday telling them the school is conducting its own “internal investigation” into the incident.

“Once we have the facts, I assure you that they will be communicated to you, and that appropriate action, if needed, will be taken,” Principal Darrell Evans said in the letter.

Shaun Lain, Shannon Lain’s husband, told WSB-TV that the couple held a “non-alcoholic” party for their son and about 20 of his friends Saturday. About 1:30 a.m. Sunday, about eight or nine young men approached several of the partygoers on the street and took their belongings. The students who were robbed did not recognize the suspects.

Anyone with information on this incident can call the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division at 770-716-4750. Callers will remain anonymous.
