The Fulton County school board has approved the hiring of Dan W. Jones as the school system’s new chief financial officer.

Jones brings more than 40 years of financial experience to his new position, having served as chief financial officer for Forsyth County schools since 1988 and as an auditor for the Georgia Department of Audits before that.

Jones replaces former Fulton chief financial officer Robert Morales, who stepped down from the position and was named new CFO for Atlanta Public Schools in June.

During his tenure with Forsyth schools, Jones oversaw the accounting, payroll, employee benefits, school food services, workers’ compensation, property and casualty insurance, purchasing and warehousing functions.

Jones holds a bachelor’s degree in business with a minor in accounting from Auburn University. He will join Fulton schools on Oct. 1.
