The Fulton school board today plans to approve its $885 million proposed budget for the fall 2014-spring 2015 school year.
The recommended budget includes a 3 percent one-time special payment for teachers, bus drivers and some other workers, as well as an extra day added to the student calendar, bringing it to 178 days. The school district employs nearly 12,000 people.
To support the budget, Fulton County residents whose property values have increased may see a tax increase. The system’s millage rate will stay the same at 18.502, but increasing property values would bring in more tax revenue for the school district.
The school board will hold two public hearings today on the millage rate, one at 11:30 a.m. and another at 6:30 p.m. The board will hold its work session today starting at 11:30 a.m., and expects to approve the budget tonight at 7 p.m.
All meetings will take place at the system's administration building, 786 Cleveland Avenue SW in Atlanta. Check out the agenda here, or watch online here.
