Fulton to renovate or replace schools in “below average” condition

Feb 12, 2016

Fulton County schools considered to be in "below average" condition or worse are slated for replacement or renovation in a plan proposed by school district leaders.

McClarin High School, Riverwood High School, Crabapple Middle School and Conley Hills Elementary are deemed to "not be economically viable to renovate due to age and other physical and site restrictions," and are recommend to be replaced, according to the school district's proposed capital improvement plan for the next five years.

As part of the plan, four new schools would be constructed to provide classroom space based on current or projected overcrowding: STEM-focused high schools in north and south Fulton and a new elementary school in the south; and a fourth school to address potential growth “in areas where specific need has not yet been identified.”

The proposed plan was presented at a Fulton school board meeting Tuesday, with board members expected to vote on it Thursday. Fulton schools leaders have surveyed parents and held several community meetings in January on the proposed plan.
