A Fulton County elementary school has joined a select group of schools in Georgia by becoming certified in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education.

River Eves Elementary in Roswell welcomed state school Superintendent Richard Woods as well as state politicians and other dignitaries for a school-wide ceremony this week to celebrate the school becoming the first to be STEM-certified in the Fulton County school system.

Only 11 elementary schools and about 30 schools in Georgia are certified in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education.

The new STEM curriculum has been implemented at the school – which has close to 800 students — over the past few years, schools officials say.
