Fulton County schools’ 2015 graduation rate is 85.3 percent – a 6.6 percentage point increase over the 2014 rate, according to results released Monday by the Georgia Department of Education.

Fulton schools reported the highest graduation rate in the metro Atlanta area. The Georgia average for 2015 is 78.7 percent.

In 2011, Fulton launched a five-year strategic plan that focuses on three specific goals, one of which is increasing the district’s graduation rate to 90 percent by 2017. With two academic years left in the five-year plan, Fulton is 4.7 points shy of that goal.

“We continue to be on target to meet our 2017 graduation rate goal,” said Kenneth Zeff, interim Fulton superintendent, in a released statement. “We set the bar very high, and the district’s continued success shows the power of high expectations.”
