Fulton County school board members have approved the names of two new elementary schools slated to open in August.

Wolf Creek Elementary will be the name of the school under construction at Derrick Road and South Fulton Parkway in Southwest Atlanta. Wolf Creek is a tributary of a river that runs through the area.

The second school – Vickery Mill Elementary – will become the new name of the school on Ga. 9 in Roswell. The name reflects the historic mill founded on Vickery Creek, which was the city’s original power source.

The site, which has been temporarily housing Esther Jackson this school year while its new building is built, will officially become Vickery Mill once students and staff move back to the original Martin Road site.

Fulton school board members approved the names of the new schools at a meeting Tuesday. Both schools will house up to 850 students in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade.
