The Atlanta school district is investigating whether members of the Mays High School football team live within the school’s attendance zone.

Earlier this year, the Georgia High School Association sanctioned Grady High School after an investigation found that at least one-fourth of the school's football team was fraudulently enrolled. Fourteen students who played on the team did not live in Grady's enrollment area, district officials said at the time.

The Mays Raiders made it to the Class AAAAA state championship earlier this month before losing 25-18.

The Georgia High School Association notified Atlanta Public Schools in late October about allegations that Mays football players did not live in the school’s attendance zone, district spokesman James Malone said.

A district investigation found that one of the students specifically mentioned in the anonymous complaint lived within Mays’s attendance zone. The district is still investigating allegations about other students, Malone said. That investigation is expected to be complete in January.

The Georgia High School Association did not respond to an email from The Atlanta Journal-Constitution about the investigation Monday. The Atlanta school district, which is closed for winter break, has not yet responded to a Friday public records request for documents related to the investigation.
