A new full-time principal will begin at Lakeside High School later this month, six months after his predecessor was removed from the school for making racist comments to staff.

According to a press release, Damian Bounds will begin with the DeKalb County School District on July 25. Bounds comes to the district from Fulton County Schools, where he most recently was an assistant principal at Centennial High School. He’s also worked as an administrator with the Cobb County School District. Superintendent Steve Green, who was part of the interview process, said in the release that Bounds “encourages a strong, positive school culture.”

Former principal Jason Clyne was removed from the school in late January after someone posted fliers in the school quoting some of what Clyne allegedly said to custodial workers at the school. Among the quotes: "I'm a redneck master with a degree," and "I run these 40 acres." During the investigation, officials discovered about a dozen allegations against Clyne that were never investigated. Clyne resigned in March, but was paid through the end of his contract, which ended June 30.

Retired Principal Robert Williams has served the school since just after Clyne's removal. He will work with Bounds to transition the new principal into the position.
