The DeKalb County School District says it will build a new Austin Elementary School as well as shared park and sports facilities, part of a land swap with the city of Dunwoody.

According to an intergovernmental agreement, the city will purchase the school’s current location, 5435 Roberts Drive, and a 7.9 acre portion of the Peachtree Charter Middle School property on North Peachtree Road. It would sell 10.2 acres of adjacent land to the school district, currently part of the Dunwoody Park/Dunwoody Nature Center. The district will build a new school, as well as sports facilities and park space intended for shared use, at the new site, at 5321 Roberts Drive.

In the agreement, the city would have access to sports space on the Peachtree Charter property.

Two baseball fields will be built at the Peachtree Charter site to replace two baseball fields currently at Dunwoody Park. Students will continue to attend Austin Elementary School until the new building is ready.
