Two 1st graders from Cobb County won second place in their age group in the Wonder League Robotics Competition.
The event drew more than 5,300 teams and 25,000 students from across the world.
Camille Mascarenas of King Springs Elementary, and Drew Williams, who is home schooled, programmed their robots, Dot and Dash, to traverse a piece of floor to deliver balls into two cups.

The competition, sponsored by Wonder Workshop, gives students an early introduction into science, coding and robotics.
Its special focus is getting girls into the field. While women make up less than one-quarter of the computer science workforce, half of the finalists in the Wonder League’s 9-12 age bracket were girls, as well as 35% of participants in the 6-8 bracket.
The 2016-2017 Wonder League Robotics Competition began in October 2016, with a finalist round being held in January 2017.
The grand prize winning teams received a $5,000 grant for STEM related supplies, a Dash robot for every member of the team and special edition Wonder League finalists shirts. The top five teams received a Dash robot for every member of the team.
