The Cobb County Board of Education approved $1.5 million for an architectural contract to build a new school to combine the student bodies of two south Cobb schools.
The unanimous voted will put into motion hiring an architect — Atlanta-based Cunningham Forehand Matthews & Moore Architects — to design a facility to replace Harmony Leland Elementary School, built in 1951, and Clay Elementary School.
Parents have been adamant about replacing the schools, which suffer from leaky roofs, mold and flooding.
David Morgan, the boardmember who oversees those schools, put the agenda item up for vote.
The $1.5 million isn't a final pricetag for the architect but merely based on an expected 5 percent of the actual cost of the project.
The money would come from previously claimed general fund money and reimbursed by SPLOST V.
"No architectural work will commence unless and until SPLOST V passes," the agenda items reads.
