A Cobb County school bus driver has won a prestigious award recognizing safety skills.
Michael Graham recently took 3rd place at the National School Transportation Association's School Bus Driver International Safety Competition in Minneapolis. Last year, he took 5th place.
Each year the transportation association hosts the competition, which features the best school bus drivers from the U.S. and Canada competing for top honors and recognition.
The event begins with a written test, then contestants get behind the wheel of a bus to put their driving skills to the test.
“Drivers have the opportunity to demonstrate their professionalism, skill and dedication to pupil transportation,” according to the NSTA.
The School Bus Driver International Safety Competition began in 1971 as the National School Bus Safety Road-e-o, and continues to take place each year.
