Cobb County school board members are reconsidering the proposed expansion of a new theater for North Cobb High School following complaints by some parents.

The board voted Wednesday to have the Facilities & Technology Citizens Oversight Committee study the expansion of the new theater from 750 seats to 1100 for an extra cost of $3 million.

The board had voted in August to expand the theater. Board chairman Randy Scamihorn proposed the theater expansion to serve the communities of Acworth and Kennesaw, as well as all of Cobb, and the projected increasing population of North Cobb High.

But parents have argued the expansion is not justified considering SPLOST-funded projects in other needier parts of Cobb have been delayed due to lack of funding.

The committee voted last month for the board to changes its decision and instead build the 750-seat theater proposed as part of SPLOST IV.

But after some debate over the matter, board members Wednesday voted 7-0 to send the proposed expansion of the theater back to the committee for its members to reconsider.
