Student enrollment in Cobb County is expected to keep growing over the next decade, according to a recently released study.

The K-12 district population is projected to increase by more than 6,000 students over the next 10 years, a net increase of 5.53 percent. The greatest increase is at the high school level — expected to increase by 6,907 students, according to the enrollment study recently presented to the school board.

The school district currently has 67 elementary schools, 25 middle schools and 16 high schools. In October 2013, the district reported 49,116 K-5 students, 24,875 6-8 students and 33,723 9-12 students for a total of 107,714 K-12 students enrolled in the district.

There are over 60 housing projects under way or planned, scattered around the district, according to the study. There are plans for 23 separate sites to build 2,041 new housing units over the next ten years.
