A three-person panel will make a recommendation to Gov. Nathan Deal today on whether embattled Cherokee County School Board member Kelly Marlow should be removed from office.

The recommendation will not be revealed publicly, and Deal has two weeks to decide whether to accept it.

Marlow has been been indicted for falsely telling police that Cherokee Superintendent Frank Petruzielo tried to run her over with his car after a contentious school board meeting this past summer.

During a meeting at the Attorney General’s Office on Thursday, the prosecutor in the case, Rachelle Carnesale, told the panel that Marlow lied to police, who relied on video to dispute her account.

An attorney working for Marlow, Brian Steel, said she did not lie to police. He had a crime scene analysis expert show the panel video of Marlow crossing a street as a car passed behind her.

The expert argued that Marlow would have been struck if she had stopped as the car approached.

The panel, comprised of Attorney General Sam Olens, Cobb County School Board member Tim Stultz and Forsyth County School Board member Ann K. Crow, watched in silence before retiring to deliberate.
