• A team of students from The Weber School won second place, high school division, in the first Technion Jewish Day School Challenge, created jointly by RAVSAK, a network of Jewish day schools, and Technion-Israel Institute of Technology. The contest, judged by Technion experts, required each team to build a Rube Goldberg machine in the spirit of Pesach, or Passover. More than 600 students from 41 Jewish day schools in Europe, North America, Australia, and Africa participated. Weber's twelve-student team was led by faculty program adviser Laura Klingensmith. Team members are Madison Barnard, Avi Botwinick, Justin Cobb, Levi Durham, Thomas Foodman, Izzy Jacobs, Eric Lieberman, Josh Lipton, Idan Livnat, Isaac Weissman, Sammy Weiss-Cowie, and Ross Williams.
• The Fayette County High Majestic Tigers step team placed second in the nation in the high school girls division of the National Steppers Association National Championship in Memphis. Team members are Asia Ridley (captain), Aana Hampton-Ashford (squad leader), Dasia Danzey (squad leader), Janya Ali, Patricia Banks, Heaven Boyd, Takeyah Bynum, Taliya Carter, Kennedi Jackson, Kaylah Jett, Kierra Kemp, Whitney Lott, Jacquia Lyles, Courtney Malone, Jaida Olverson, Destiny Vasrani, and Hasha Webb. The team coach is Enrique Blake, and Sherese Floyd is the assistant coach. The team had won the title of State Grand Champion in the High School Girls Division at the state competition. The step team at Fayette County's Bennett's Mill Middle also won at the 2016 Georgia Steppers League State Championships.
• Shana White, a technology coordinator at Creekland Middle School, has been named Georgia's 2016 Lead PBS LearningMedia Digital Innovator. Now in its fourth year, the program honors educators from across the country who exemplify excellence in using technology and digital media to support student learning. The 2016 Lead Innovators are awarded with year-long professional development opportunities, virtual training, exclusive resources from PBS LearningMedia Custom, a free PBS TeacherLine professional development course, networking opportunities and more. The 52 Lead Digital Innovators will receive an all-expense paid trip to Denver to participate in the 2016 PBS LearningMedia Digital Summit and the International Society for Technology in Education Conference.
• Fulton County's Law Week Committee chaired by Fulton County Superior Court Judge Jane Barwick, announced the 2016 "Future Leaders of America" high school student scholarship winners. The scholarships cover round-trip airfare, tuition, room and board and transportation in and around Washington, D.C., to attend the Washington Workshops' Congressional Seminar June 18-24, where they will study national politics and government.
