Three students from Marietta Middle School recently earned state-level recognition in the annual Duke University Talent Identification Program. Eric Finderup, Andrew Levine and Hrithik Saride will be recognized this month at the Duke TIP State Award Ceremony at Southern Polytechnic State University. The organization serves academically gifted and talented youth.

Several local students were recently named State PAGE STAR Students for receiving high marks on the SAT. The students and the teachers who have inspired them were recently honored at a ceremony at the Crowne Plaza Atlanta Perimeter at the Ravina.
Honored were: student Lillian Tiffany Chin and teacher Chris Harrow from The Westminster Schools; student Andrea Lynn Cooper and teacher Melyn Roberson from Campbell High School; students Catherine Tingting Niu and Alexander Wu and teachers Kelly Bryan and Tina Link from George Walton High School; student Katie Zheng and teacher Michael Nance from Alpharetta High School; student Jiaxiu Zhong and teacher Estelle Sirot from Chattahoochee High School; student Lily Zhang and teacher Chris Kemp from Northview High School.

Decatur High School's student journalists recently took home several awards at the Georgia Scholastic Press Association. Audrey Baxter and Sam Levy received the top spot for their sports feature stories. Lucy Phipps-Kaye was recognized for a feature story she wrote. Wilson Witherspoon won for commentary. Carson Greer and Greg Thomas was recognized for a broadcast news package they produced.

Two students have been recognized by Google for a video they produced on bullying. Cobe Jackson and Nicolas Badila will receive scholarships and attend a camp at Kennesaw State University to develop a game for Android and iPhone mobile phones. To view their video go to raiseyourmic.org/index.html.

Michael Herrin, a senior at Chattahoochee High School was recently a finalist in the 2013 Yale University Environmental Film Festival. His picture, "Black Water" placed among the top 11 Young Photographer's contest. The contest challenged participants to capture man's effect on the environment. His picture was also voted this year's viewers' choice award.
