Cobb County’s Ford Elementary School and Gwinnett County Public Schools have been recognized by the U.S. Department of Education for their efforts to help the environment. Both were honored at a recent ceremony in Washington. Ford was one of 64 schools honored as Green Ribbon Schools, and Gwinnett was one of 14 districts honored with the first-ever District Sustainability Award. All winners received sustainably crafted plaques and banners. “The Green Ribbon Schools and District Sustainability [award-winners] are preventing harmful pollution that leads to illnesses like asthma and creating healthier learning spaces for our children. Thanks to the efficient technology and energy-saving practices that help them achieve their goals, the [award-winners] are also saving money,” said Bob Perciasepe, acting administrator for the Environmental Protection Agency.
