A teacher at Atlanta’s Toomer Elementary School was named today one of six educators nationally to win $100,000 grants from Farmers Insurance.
Toomer teacher Emily Max will use the money to build an playground that is accessible to students with special needs. The playground will include low structures with ramps, low monkey bars and balance building stations.
In the run up to the grant announcement, students and others left messages of support for Max and other teachers on Farmers' Thank America's Teachers website.
Among the messages left for Max: “Children are our future, Emily shows compassion for all kids.”
And “Ms. Max is a great teacher because she made every project fun. She is nice and funny and always ready to teach. She had stations that made the day better for everyone.”
