Atlanta Board of Education Chairman Reuben McDaniel said Tuesday he was contacted as a candidate to become executive director of the NBA players union.

McDaniel, an investment banker who is running for re-election in a Dec. 3 runoff against attorney Cynthia Briscoe Brown, said he went through an initial phone interview with Reilly Partners, a search firm seeking a union leader to succeed Billy Hunter, who was fired in February.

McDaniel said it was “flattering” to be considered, but he noted that the search is early in its process and he’s committed to serving on the school board.
