Students attending Atlanta Public Schools will stay home on Nov. 6, election day.

The Atlanta school board on Monday approved the scheduling change to make the day a professional development day for employees instead of a regular school day.

The decision was made to mitigate traffic and security concerns at schools that double as polling locations. The day also will be used to train employees on security and safety procedures.
