Another student with metro Atlanta ties has been selected to study abroad through a prestigious scholarship program.

Emaline Laney, a senior at Agnes Scott College with a double-major in public health and chemistry, received a Marshall Scholarship, which pays annually for up to 40 students to attend two years of schooling in the United Kingdom, according to an Agnes Scott press release. She will study at the London School of Hygiene and tropical Medicine, working toward a master’s in epidemiology and a master’s control of infectious diseases.

The Marshall Scholarship was established by Parliament about 60 years ago as thanks to the American public for aid to Great Britain after World War II.

Laney, a Pennsylvania native, is the second Agnes Scott student to receive the prestigious honor in the last 10 years. Only six liberal arts colleges have had more than one Marshall Scholar in the last decade.
