Gwinnett County police have arrested a man on sexual battery charges after he allegedly touched a woman after claiming his dog ran into her garage.
According to a Gwinnett County police report, the incident occurred Wednesday morning on Macon Court in Suwanee. The woman alleged that a man came to her front door and claimed his dog ran into her garage and that he wanted her help to find it. After looking around the garage and bending down to look under her vehicle, the man touched her sexually.
The man then ran off and left in his vehicle, but not before the woman took the tag number from it. The woman also found the man’s sandals, which came off his feet as he was running.
Police ran the tag number, which was registered to a white Nissan Leaf, and from there tracked down its owner, Syed Momin Ali of Lawrenceville.
Police found Ali at his home, and he told them he had been in the area of the woman’s home after dropping off his uncle and going to see his friend who lives nearby. Once he had noticed his friend had moved, he drove off but saw a woman standing on the sidewalk and realized that she had dropped her Bluetooth, he told authorities. He said the woman “looked like she could not pick up the device from the ground, so he stopped his vehicle and went and picked up the Bluetooth for her,” according to the report, and as he picked up the device, the woman started to scream. He then said he took off as he did not know what was going on.
His sandals, he added, came off his feet and were grabbed by the woman. He said he tried to take them back but she continued to scream, and so he left in his vehicle.
Police arrested the 23-year-old Ali and charged him with aggravated sexual battery, sexual battery and burglary.
