Investigators have ruled a Gwinnett County townhome fire as arson.

About 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, firefighters were called to a townhome in the 2200 block of Highpoint Road in Snellville.

They arrived to find a small fire in a front room near the entryway, Gwinnett County Fire Department spokesman Lt. Colin Rhoden said.

No one was home at the time, and no injuries were reported, authorities said.

“Evidence at the scene indicates that the fire was intentionally set,” Rhoden said in a statement. “Investigators are not releasing specific information about the evidence due to the ongoing investigation.”

A similar fire was reported in the front room of the same home in September 2013 and appeared suspicious to police, he said.

Firefighters weren’t called to the September blaze because the fire had already been extinguished, Rhoden said.

“The fire department is now looking into both fires and believes them to be connected based on the circumstances,” he said. “The occupant of the townhome told fire investigators that she was not aware of anyone who would want to harm her or cause damage to her property.”

Georgia Arson Control Inc. is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone responsible for the arson.

Investigators ask anyone with information about these firesto contact the Gwinnett County fire investigations section at 678-518-4890 or the Georgia Arson Control hotline at 1-800-282-5804.
