Gwinnett County police Monday identified the man and woman found shot inside a home near Lawrenceville Sunday night as husband and wife, and said the shooting apparently stemmed from a domestic dispute.
Officers were sent to the home on LeGrand Circle, in the gated Villages of Huntcrest subdivision, about 10:30 p.m. Sunday after a woman called 911 to report that there had been shots fired, Gwinnett police spokesman Jeffery Richter said.
“First arriving officers located a female victim … had suffered a gunshot wound,” Richter said. “Officers then searched the house for other victims. A male in his 60s was located who had also suffered a gunshot wound.”
The man, identified Monday as Richard Drummond, 66, died at the scene.
The woman, 61-year-old Janie Drummond, was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center. Her condition was not available Monday morning.
“Based on the preliminary investigation, it appears that the incident was the result of a domestic dispute between the husband and wife,” Gwinnett police Cpl. Deon Washington said Monday, adding that officers had not been called to the home in the past.
Police have not said who pulled the trigger. The Gwinnett County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the manner and cause of death for Richard Drummond.
