A man wanted on a rape charge out of Gwinnett County was arrested Thursday after prompting a SWAT standoff in North Georgia, authorities said.

Christopher Lewis Wallace, 45, barricaded himself in his home off Appian Way near Ellijay after deputies tried to serve him his arrest warrant, the Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post.

Gilmer deputies, who were assisting Gwinnett authorities with the warrant, participated in the standoff, which also involved help from the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office’s SWAT unit, the post said.

The sheriff’s office didn’t say how long the standoff lasted, but Wallace surrendered later Thursday. No one was injured.

Wallace was taken to the Gwinnett jail, where he remained Friday without bond, according to online jail records.

No other information on his rape warrant, which police obtained June 30, was provided. AJC.com has reached out to Gwinnett police for more information.
