Idalia is losing steam as it carves a path toward the Georgia Coast on Wednesday afternoon. The storm’s maximum sustained winds are estimated to be 75 mph, just barely retaining its status as a Category 1 hurricane.

Idalia is forecast to weaken further, but it could still produce hurricane-force winds, especially in gusts, through this evening across portions of southeastern Georgia and southern South Carolina, the National Hurricane Center said in its 2 p.m. advisory. The center of the storm as located about 100 miles west of Savannah and was moving fast toward the northeast at 20 mph.

It is expected to reach Savannah around sunset, according to forecasters. Flash flooding and river flooding is likely in the area through through Thursday.
