The funeral for slain East Point police officer Crystal Parker will be held Saturday at a church near police headquarters.

The service for Parker is scheduled for noon Saturday at East Point First Mallalieu United Methodist Church on Church Street. No public visitation is planned.

Parker, East Point’s 2012 Police Officer of the Year, was found dead Sunday at her home of a single gunshot wound to the head.

Police said she may have been dead three days when the body was discovered.

Police have charged an ex-roommate, Danielle Alexis Parker, 30, with murder.

Parker, 34, had worked for the East Point Police Department for six years. Colleagues described her as a kind person and devoted employee.

Police have not speculated on a motive for her slaying.

The suspect waived first court hearing Wednesday. She is now set to appear in court at 9 a.m. on July 24.
