The weekend warmup is getting an early start with highs in the 70s in Friday’s forecast.
That’s still well below average for this time of year, but it’s an improvement from afternoon temperatures in the 50s and 60s earlier in the week, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said. Atlanta’s projected high is 73 degrees Friday.
“Still cooler than it should be, but still a nice afternoon,” he said. “A mix of sun and clouds on the way for your Friday. If that’s not warm enough, we’re going to get even warmer on Saturday and on Sunday.”
It's been a cool start to May -- but temperatures are about to warm up and that warm up will last into next week.

Monahan expects highs to reach the 80s on Sunday, which is more typical for this time of year. North Georgia is still cool Friday morning with lows in the 40s and 50s.
The weather should cooperate for any outdoor plans Friday, Monahan said.

“If you are going to head out Friday night, it will be partly cloudy,” he said. “We’re going to drop back into the 60s and 50s, but it should be comfortable.”
Dry conditions and mild temperatures will hold through the weekend, he said. Saturday should reach a high of 77 degrees before an 80-degree day on Sunday, according to the latest forecast.
“Early next week, we will start to see the humidity come up a little bit,” Monahan said. “The rain will move back in by Tuesday.”

The Downtown Connector was trouble-free at 6:30 a.m., and there were no major delays on any other metro Atlanta interstate, the Traffic Center reported. The slowest spot in town is Spaghetti Junction.
An earlier stalled vehicle on I-85 South at Jimmy Carter Boulevard has cleared, but traffic was still impacted getting to the I-285 interchange, according to the Traffic Center.
