Employee accused of stealing $645K from Cobb business
A former office manager at a Cobb County business is accused of stealing $645,750 over a seven-year period.
Jennifer Ann Broussard, of Dallas, was arrested Sunday night and charged with theft by taking fiduciary and computer forgery, both felonies, Cobb County jail record show.
While employed at Craftsmen Business Interiors, Broussard allegedly wrote herself 147 checks by falsifying financial data, according to an arrest warrant obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Broussard allegedly created phony entries for vehicle expenses into the company’s accounting database, allowing her to issue checks for reimbursement made payable to herself under the name Jennifer Burchfield, the warrant states.
“Said accused did then subsequently delete the fraudulent expense entry and balance the company records by falsely inflating multiple other expenditures and expenses thereby hiding the theft,” the warrant states.
The alleged thefts went undetected until the IRS contacted the company regarding unpaid federal taxes in April, prompting the company to do an internal audit, the warrant states.
Broussard was being held Monday afternoon on $700,000 bond, booking records show.
