A driver was killed after slamming into a tractor-trailer on I-285, shutting down the interstate for three hours overnight.

The wreck was reported on the Westside Perimeter about 2 a.m. Tuesday near the ramp to I-20 West, according to Atlanta police. Investigators blocked the southbound lanes until about 5 a.m., when the scene was cleared, the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center reported.

“Preliminary investigation found that a tractor-trailer was traveling south on I-285 and exiting to westbound I-20,” police said in a statement. “The tractor-trailer was stopped in traffic when a Toyota Camry stuck the rear end of the tractor-trailer.”

The Camry’s driver was killed, but the truck driver was not injured in the wreck. Their names were not released.

The crash remains under investigation, police said.
