The Thursday morning commute was a soggy one, and the afternoon drive home will probably be just as wet, forecasters said.

Rain moved into the western suburbs before 4 a.m., and had spread across most of metro Atlanta by 5 a.m.

“We’ll keep the showers going through the day,” Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton said, adding that there could be some afternoon thunderstorms in the southern suburbs.

Minton said the chance of rain is 100 percent Thursday, diminishing to 30 percent by Friday morning.

Thursday’s rain will be accompanied by cooler temperatures, Minton said, with highs only reaching the mid-50s.

Lows in the mid-40s early Friday will be followed by afternoon readings in the mid-60s, Minton said.

The weekend should begin with a dry Saturday morning, but there’s a 40 percent chance of rain later in the day, and the risk of rain goes up to 70 percent Sunday, according to Minton.

Weekend highs will be in the low 70s Saturday and low 60s Sunday, with lows each day in the low 50s.
