A Detroit woman, seeking help after a car wreck, was shot in the head and killed by someone who could have helped her.

Renisha McBride, 19, knocked on the door of a home in Dearborn Heights, just outside of Detroit, around 2:30 a.m. Sunday, police said. Her cell phone battery was dead and she walked to a house to get help, according to reports about the incident. Many details of the incident have yet to be released, but police said she was shot while she stood on the porch of a home by the homeowner.

Her family said she was shot in the back of the head with a shotgun as she turned to leave the house.

Police have not released the name of the shooter, but the Dearborn Heights police are “seeking unspecified charges,” according to a report in the Detroit Free Press.
