A carjacking suspect was shot and killed by an off-duty DeKalb County police officer Thursday night.
The incident happened in the shopping plaza at 2632 Rainbow Way.
An armed man approached a woman from behind and attempted to steal her vehicle around 8:30 p.m., DeKalb police interim Chief James Conroy said.
She immediately got the attention of an off-duty officer working security in the area, police said.
The officer found the suspect in the vehicle, approached him and ordered him to drop his handgun, but the suspect pointed the weapon toward the officer, Conroy said.
The officer shot the suspect multiple times, he said. The suspect died at the scene.
No one else was injured.
The investigation is continuing.
