A tractor-trailer driver tried to avoid an abandoned vehicle in the westbound lanes of I-285 early Tuesday morning but overcorrected, hitting the vehicle and a median wall, police said.

The crash at North Shallowford Road shut down the interstate just before 5 a.m. No injuries were reported, according to police, but the incident caused traffic headaches for much of the morning commute through one of the busiest stretches in Dunwoody.

The truck was towed to the shoulder and the lanes reopened by 7 a.m., according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center. Crews had to repair a damaged median wall and clear concrete debris, and a fuel spill had to be cleaned up.

For several hours after they cleared the scene, delays on the outer loop of the Perimeter stretched back into Tucker.
