A person is in serious condition after their vehicle became trapped under a tractor-trailer along Ga. 316 in Gwinnett County on Tuesday morning.

The crash, reported around 4 a.m. between Dacula and Lawrenceville, blocked all westbound lanes for about three hours. Gwinnett police said witnesses who called 911 reported a person trapped in the vehicle but were unable to get them out.

The victim was eventually rescued by responding firefighters and rushed to a hospital with serious injuries, police said. An update on their condition was not provided, but police said they were undergoing surgery.

The tractor-trailer was trying to make a U-turn when the other vehicle was approaching in the opposite direction, police said. When the vehicles collided, the smaller one went under the trailer.

Channel 2 Action News footage showed the big rig still stuck at the intersection of Fence Road and Ga. 316 around 6:45 a.m. By 7 a.m., the truck had been moved to the right shoulder and lanes fully reopened 10 minutes later.
