A moped rider was fatally struck on I-285 North in DeKalb County near Clarkston on Tuesday morning, according to police, shutting down the interstate for three hours.

The crash took place around 3:20 a.m. near East Ponce de Leon Avenue, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.

DeKalb police were called to the area and found the victim, who they said appeared to have been hit by a vehicle. That driver did not stop, and the victim was ultimately struck by two more vehicles, according to investigators. Those drivers stayed at the scene.

The victim’s name was not released.

Traffic was blocked and diverted at Church Street as backups extended beyond Memorial Drive. Lanes were reopened around 6:45 a.m.

Police have not released any other details about the crash. It remains under investigation.
